The volume of retail trade in the euro zone registered an increase of 0.8% last November compared to October, when it had fallen by 1.5%, according to data published by the community statistical office, Eurostat.
In the European Union (EU) as a whole, the volume of retail trade in November grew by 0.9% compared to the previous month, when it had fallen by 1.4%.
In relation to November 2021, the volume of retail trade in the euro area fell by 2.8% year-on-year and by 2.4% among the Twenty-seven.
Among the EU Member States for which data are available, the largest monthly declines in total retail trade volume were recorded in Luxembourg (-2%), France and Croatia (-1% in both), while the The main increases occurred in Spain (+3.6%), Poland (+2.6%) and Sweden (+2.3%).
Compared to November 2021, the largest year-on-year decreases were in Denmark (-7.4%), Belgium (-6%) and Germany (-5.7%). By contrast, the most significant increases were observed in Latvia (+10.7%), Slovenia (+7.5%) and Poland (+5.7%).
In November 2022, the year-on-year inflation rate in the euro area stood at 10.1%, the first deceleration in its rise in 17 months, although the correction was one tenth less intense than initially anticipated by the Community Statistics Office , Eurostat.
Meanwhile, in December inflation moderated to 9.2%, which implies a drop of nine tenths compared to 10.1% in November, according to preliminary information from Eurostat.
