The first week of 2023 brought with it the first controversy related to video games. A rumor pointed out that the development of fable it had to be rebooted and the development team would have made the decision to start from scratch with a new graphics engine. However, there are some details to take into account to deal with this information that is undoubtedly already giving people something to talk about.

Today, first thing in the morning, a rumor arose in the controversial and questionable forum 4chan with a publication by an anonymous user who assured that the development of fable was rebooted by Playground Games because they could not reach the planned results due to the use of Forzatech, which is why an engine change to Unreal Engine (probably version 5) would have been ordered. At the same time, it was pointed out that the most recent version of the game in its development stage was “unplayable” and that in terms of progress only 1/4 of what was planned had been achieved until August 2022. This together would have led to Playground to restart from scratch the development of fable with a new debut window for the last quarter of 2024.
Starting from this “rumor”, the doubts about the veracity did not wait, but the controversy was generated moments later after the publications of journalists and insiders. An example of this was the response to the rumor by Jez Corden, editor of windows centralwho questioned the source (4chan) but noted that he would not be surprised if it were true.

Some publications sowed doubts, but most agree that the rumor is false
Subsequently, Chris Dring, director of gamesindustry.bizHe was categorical and assured that the rumor is not true. For his part, the person in charge of the Twitter account “Timdog” mentioned that the original source of the information was the user of the social network, @Gazondaily, but moments later he responded by clarifying that the information he provided at the time was time and was related to Forzatech problems (engine with which the new fable) and has not been made aware of any further details about what is going on with the game.

Finally, it is important to consider information from official sources directly related to the project. The first is Amie Loake, producer of fable, who responded last June to statements by a former member of the development team who claimed that the game was in trouble. On that occasion, Amie Loake denied the rumors and assured that the only thing that has been taken into account is that the project does not fall into crunch or development hell, so they are taking the necessary time respecting the workers.
Then there is the statement from Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, who in September 2022 assured that the project fable It’s going well, it’s got some great stuff, and although he’d like to show the progress to the public, Playground thinks it’s not time yet.
Finally, it should be mentioned that the development of fable It has not stopped adding creatives and in the vacancies there is no mention of any important change.
In this way, there are very high possibilities that this rumor is false and the only question is why we have not seen a concrete advance of the new fable in so many years, but that by itself does not mean that development is in serious trouble.
