The US reiterates before the new Israeli foreign minister its position on the two-state solution

The US Secretary of State affirms that Washington will oppose steps that undermine such a solution

3 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –

US State Department Secretary Antony Blinken has reiterated Washington’s support for a two-state solution to settle the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, in a call before Israel’s new foreign minister, Eli Cohen.

“We strongly support a two-state solution and we oppose anything that endangers its viability,” Blinken said, after congratulating his counterpart, as indicated through a message on his official profile on the social network Twitter.

“Based on our strong commitment to Israel’s security and longstanding values, together we can advance shared interests and meet mutual challenges,” added the US Secretary of State, referring to Israel’s regional integration o the “threat from Iran”.

Cohen has thanked Blinken for his “warm words”, stressing “the shared values” and “friendship” of the United States and Israel, as a “cornerstone” of their “ability to face ongoing challenges.”

“This year marks the 75th anniversary of Israel’s special relations with the United States,” he stressed, stressing that he hopes to work with his counterpart to strengthen these relations.

Washington has repeatedly emphasized advocating for a two-state solution in the region, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanhayu has stressed in recent weeks that “the Jewish people have the exclusive and unquestionable right to all areas in the Land of Israel.” and has advanced that it will promote the expansion of settlements in the West Bank.
