The French frigate ‘Guépratte’ has seized 4 tons of drugs, mainly cannabis resin and heroin, worth 50 million euros in waters near the Persian Gulf.
The French Navy ship, a La Fayette-type frigate, was patrolling near the Strait of Hormuz on December 27 when it intercepted a dhow — an Arab vessel with a triangular sail — carrying nearly 500 kilos of heroin and nearly four tons of resin. cannabis.
The operation falls under the purview of Combined Task Force 150 (CTF 150), a mission in collaboration with Saudi Arabia and other countries to prevent criminal and terrorist activities in the waters of the Persian Gulf region.
“These drugs were probably destined for the European market and could have reached a total amount of 50 million euros, which have thus been withdrawn from criminal networks that destabilize the region,” the French Navy explained in an official statement.
