A “mid-year Air Defense Alliance” under the aegis of the US against the Iranian threat.
Jerusalem () – Since the signing of the “Abraham Accords”, which led to the normalization of relations between Israel and part of the Arab world and the Gulf, the Jewish State has signed arms sales contracts with “countries of the region” for a total value of almost three billion euros. This was stated by Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz, confirming the economic and military value, as well as political, of the controversial pact signed in 2020 with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan, under the Trump presidency.
The minister did not specify the names of the countries involved or the nature of the contracts, but the announcement is a further confirmation of the new axis that has been formed, from which the Palestinians were left out, who immediately strongly condemned the agreement and the states Arab-Muslims who signed it. At the same time, senior Israeli defense officials and officials have intensified relations and contacts with their counterparts in the region over the past two years.
“Since the signing of the agreements – underlined Benny Gantz in an interview with Haaretz – about 150 meetings of defense personnel have been held with their counterparts from the countries of the region, with the exception of Egypt and Jordan”. The goal, he explained, is to “continue to expand the security framework under US leadership, and a visit [a mediados de julio del presidente de EE. UU.] of Biden to the Middle East will help in this regard.
The head of defense spoke again about Iran, considered the main threat, against which he wants to “strengthen” regional collaboration and the role of Israel, taking advantage of Biden’s upcoming presence. The Jewish state is studying a “Middle Eastern Air Defense Alliance” sponsored by the US administration. In the recent past, the project has already taken its first steps by intercepting “air threats” from the ayatollahs, such as the “drones launched towards Israel” and shot down in Iraqi Kurdistan.
In terms of security, the Israeli army highlights the “integration” within Centcom (United States Central Command), thanks to which “a high degree of operational collaboration” has been developed that is “in constant development.” Participation constitutes an advantage to face the “threat” posed by Tehran in a context of “global and regional challenge” in the face of “its most serious threat”.
