Meeting of the Australian foreign minister with her Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, in Bali

The delegations from Australia and China led by Penny Wong and Wang Yi, respectively.


Penny Wong, Senator and Chancellor of Australia, met today, July 8, with the State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of ChinaWang Yi, at the conclusion of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Bali.

Wong said that he welcomes the discussion on issues of interest between the two countries, as well as the prosperity, security and stability of the region. He stated that it was a talk in which he spoke frankly and listened carefully to the priorities and concerns of each one.

The official expressed in Bali that Australia’s concerns on a series of bilateral, regional, commercial and consular issues.

During the meeting, both sides considered that Australia and China have gained a lot from the strength of their economic and people-to-people ties.

“We have our differences, but it is in both countries’ interest for the relationship to stabilize,” Wong said.

At the end, the Foreign Minister of Australia stressed that the Australian Government will always seek to resolve problems calmly and coherently within the framework of its Comprehensive Strategic Association and in accordance with its national interests.
