No competition! Nintendo overwhelmingly dominated Christmas in Japan

Although several companies will not go to gamescom 2022, Ubisoft confirms attendance

Christmas week is the most important of the year in almost the entire world, as it is when people buy the most. As for video games, it’s a great way to see the interest in the market and this year Nintendo once again reaffirmed that it is the undisputed king in Japan.

Like every week Famitsu (via Gematsu) shared the list of estimated sales in physical format in Japanese stores and what is striking is the total dominance of Nintendo of the list of 10 best-selling games in the Japanese region.

Nintendo was the king of Christmas shopping in Japan

Thanks to this report, we can see that the Nintendo Switch once again remained the preferred console to give away at Christmas by selling just over 120,000 units in all its models. However, the most impressive thing is that the 17 best-selling games in Japan are from Nintendo Switch.

In fact, in the list of the 30 best-selling games there were only 3 positions occupied by PlayStation games: Gran Turismo 7 (18th, 11,780), the PlayStation 4 version of CRISIS CORE: FINAL FANTASY VII REUNION (20th, 8865) and the PlayStation 5 version of the same game (24th, 6868).

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet They have been in first place for 6 consecutive weeks now and apparently they will retain it for several more weeks before another game manages to dethrone it. On the other hand, something interesting is that Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban!the phenomenon that made history in 2020, returned to the list to take 10th place.

In case you missed it: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet are the best-selling games in Japan in 2022.

It was a good Christmas for PlayStation in Japan, but not for Xbox

It is important to note, however, that it was not a bad Christmas for PlayStation 5, since it managed to position itself in 2nd position on the list, just below the Nintendo Switch OLED and surpassing the other 2 models of the Nintendo console, which speaks of the rise in popularity of the Sony system, after a great period of shortage.

Unfortunately, we can’t say the same for Xbox consoles, which even sold less than the previous week.

Here we leave you with the lists.
