Zelensky appreciates the support of the United States and recognizes that military supplies are a “priority need” for Ukraine

BERLIN, 8 (DPA/EP)

The United States authorities have announced the shipment of a new package of arms supplies to Ukraine worth 400 million dollars -more than 392 million euros-.

Washington thus seeks to strengthen the defensive capabilities of the Ukrainian Army to face Russian troops in the framework of the territorial invasion ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the end of February.

This shipment includes four ‘HIMARS’ model multiple rocket launcher systems, a thousand 155-millimeter-caliber high-precision artillery shells, as well as high-tech radar and spare parts.

After hearing the news, the president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, has posted a message of thanks on his Twitter social network profile where he has valued the support of his American counterpart, Joe Biden.

“Truly grateful to the President of the United States, the American people for continuing to effectively support Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression,” Zelensky said.

The Ukrainian president has recognized that the 155-millimeter projectiles are “priority needs” for the country and that they are the tools that “will help put pressure on the enemy.” “We appreciate the support of the United States. Let’s go together to victory,” he settled.

With this new shipment, the United States brings to twelve the number of ‘HIMERS’ systems sent to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Recently, from Moscow, it has been reported that at least two of them have been destroyed.

However, these claims have been denied by the Pentagon, the US Defense Ministry, which has noted that all ‘HIMARS’ systems delivered to Ukraine are still operational.

The United States has pledged or delivered $7.3 billion worth of arms and equipment to Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24.
