Colombian Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva said on Thursday that, despite the differences with the United States government, the joint work between officials from both countries “has been wonderful.”
The statements were made by Leyva during his visit to Washington, where he met with Brian Nichols, Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, and Juan González, of the White House Security Council.
Leyva stated that during the meeting, issues of a bilateral nature were reviewed, such as the migrationdrug trafficking, agrarian reformthe land fund, youth and poverty and emphasized that despite “some tones in the differences, or contrasting tones, so to speak, the work is wonderful.”
He even added that “Colombia’s relations with the United States are going through an excellent moment,” which he believes will lead to “a very good year 2023.”
Likewise, he referred to the participation of the United States in the Latin American conference on migration.
“Colombia, which is going through some very difficult episodes, also with the issue of migration; and it is something that must be seen from a multinational point of view. The continent has this problem and we are going to have to solve it jointly,” he assured. Leyva.
For his part, the Colombian ambassador to the US, Luis Gilberto Murillo, assured that they also discussed the Immigration relief for Colombians who are in the North American nation without documentation.
“Today we have different perspectives, but we are going to work to advance each of their issues, but there is an opening, it is a good time for discussion but we touched on it today,” Murillo said.
Leyva assured that the purpose of the visit to Washington is to take stock of the end of the year and of issues that must be worked on jointly.
