The President of China, Xi Jinping, acknowledged this Saturday that the Asian giant has entered a new phase in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, in which he has admitted that some challenges will persist, without directly referring to the explosion of infections in recent weeks.
“Since COVID-19 arrived, we have put the citizenry above all else,” Xi defended, in a year-end speech in which he referred for the second time — the first was on Friday — to the new strategy adopted by the Chinese authorities.
In this sense, he has said that the Government has “adapted” its response based on an “evolving situation”, to “protect the life and health of the population in the best possible way”, according to extracts released by official media. .
The president has recognized that these last few years have not been easy and there has been an unprecedented challenge, but he has thanked the citizens, especially the medical workers, for their efforts.
