This monster movie from the director of ‘Snowpiercer’ mixes comedy, horror and action and has just landed on Prime Video

This horror best-seller has a chilling adaptation that has gone unfairly unnoticed on Prime Video

Today he is a respected and multi-award winning director: his new projects are eagerly awaited, and films like ‘Snowpiercer’ or ‘parasites‘ are already modern classics of the most internationally watched Korean cinema. But Bong Joon Ho began to stand out with this fantastic and much more modest ‘The Host‘, which has just arrived on Prime Video and already brings together many of its author traits.

The main one is the handling of genre tropes (such as the apocalyptic cinema in ‘Snowpiercer’, the family adventures in ‘Okja’ or the psychological thriller in ‘Parasites’), but all seasoned with a disconcerting and almost goofy humor that gives a twist to what we are seeingless drama and forces us to reconsider our point of view.

The film tells how, in the Han River in Seoul, a monstrous mutant creature awakens that devours every human it comes across. The creature kidnaps the daughter of the owner of a kiosk who lives on the river bank, and it will be he and her family who will have to take charge of rescuing her, going over the attempts of the army.

korean cinema continues to be one of the most elusive to classifications and conventions, and ‘The Host’ is a good example of this, as is Bong Joon Ho. Giant monster cinema was enriched with an absolutely unique amphibian creature thanks to this film in which nothing that happens in its two hours of footage is predictable.
