We are widely used to the fact that on Intel platforms we cannot overclock processors that do not have the K tag, nor on motherboards that do not belong to the Z range, something that breaks with the key concept of overclocking, which was to obtain greater performance by forcing the machinery while saving money.
However, it seems that MSI wants to go back to the roots with this generation of motherboards, as they have done before, and that is that according to a leak that we read on Twitter, We can see how the MSI MAG B760M Mortar Max WiFi will have a functionality that will allow overclocking using BCLK in processors that do not have the K tag.
This will be thanks to a Renesas RC26008 external clock generator, a generator that will allow you to modify the base clock of the system instead of depending on the one generated by the processor, thus allowing to increase its operating frequency externally.
This type of overclock has its drawbacks, How would it be to force the frequency of the rest of the buses in the system, even if we don’t always want it?but, after all, it is as it often was in former times where there wasn’t as much control over which platforms can overclock and which can’t.
