Taiwan denounces a new Chinese incursion into its security airspace in the strait

July 8. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Taiwanese Ministry of Defense has denounced this Friday a new incursion of Chinese fighter planes into its security zone of the strait, in the latest episode of a series of similar incidents that the island, self-proclaimed independent but whose sovereignty Beijing claims, denounces as an assault.

On this last occasion, there have been nine combat aircraft, as the Ministry has made known on its Twitter account: two Y-8 model transport aircraft and seven combat aircraft (four J-16, two J-10 and one J-11).

The planes passed through the southwestern edge of Taiwan’s declared security zone, according to the map provided by the Defense Ministry.

As has happened previously, Taiwan sent air patrol forces to respond to the incursion, with subsequent radio alerts to Chinese aircraft.

The Chinese Armed Forces have carried out successive incursions into Taiwanese airspace in recent months, the largest of which was held in mid-January, when nearly 40 aircraft participated in an operation over the Taiwanese identification zone.

Relations between Beijing and Taipei were suspended in 1949, after the forces of the Chinese nationalist Kuomintang party, led by Chiang Kai Shek, suffered a defeat in the civil war against the Communist Party of China and moved to the island of Taiwan.

Links between Taiwan and mainland China were only re-established on a business and informal level in the late 1980s. China regards Taiwan as its rogue province, even though the island has declared independence and is supported by the United States. and the European Union.
