The adviser to the Ukrainian Presidency, Mikhailo Podoliak, insisted on Tuesday on the need to expel Russia from all United Nations bodies, as he considers that “fatal errors must be corrected.”
Podoliak has launched this statement on his official profile on the social network Twitter, where he has assured that Russia “illegally” took a seat on the United Nations Security Council and “usurped” the right to veto.
“Whether due to corruption or legal negligence, the Russian Federation usurped the ‘veto right’ and systematically destroyed international legal and security systems,” said Podoliak, who has called for abiding by the law and respecting the United Nations Charter.
With this publication by President Volodimir Zelensky’s top adviser, Ukraine once again insists on its request for Russia’s expulsion from both the UN Security Council and the UN as a whole.
As the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry denounced on Monday, Russia would have benefited from the position of the Soviet Union when, with its dissolution in 1991, it occupied a position as a permanent member of the UN Security Council without going through the defined procedures by the Charter of the organization.
