The record for the image with the most likes on the social network was held since 2019 by the photograph of an egg on a white background with the caption “let’s set a world record together and get the post with the most likes on Instagram”. So far, that image has around 57 million likes.
In addition to the record-breaking image, Messi has posted other photos of his celebrations with the trophy, each of which has garnered close to 40 million likes. Likewise, the player has the most followed profile on the platform with more than 404 million users.
In an Instagram story, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, the parent company of the social network, recognized the footballer’s achievement and added that a record was also set on WhatsApp, with 25 million messages per second during the tournament final.
