A few months ago we echoed that Disney had withdrawn virtually all of its business from Russia due to the war with Ukraine, but already at that time it was clear that streaming services were still in force. However, this was due to contractual obligations, because as we read in TechReportThis will no longer be the case.
Apparently, the contracts that were still in force have ended, reason why Disney has finished withdrawing from Russia, eliminating the possibility of enjoying Disney+ in the regionsomething that many thought should have been done at the time, but in the end it could not be due to the aforementioned contracts.
It will definitely not be something that residents will appreciate, as Disney Channel was the number 2 channel in viewership in the region in October as far as children are concerned, and for now it will be replaced by Solntse, a channel whose name means “Sun” in Russian.
Right now, Russian users who want to enjoy Disney+ will have to use a VPN, something to which at this point they should not be strange considering the large number of services and companies that have closed their doors to users in Russia, as a way of forcing the hand of the Putin government.
