They denounce a bombing against civilians after an attack on a convoy of the Nigerian Presidency

Islamic State claims responsibility for prison attack in Nigerian capital

July 7. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Nigerian Air Force would have killed several civilians in a bombardment carried out on Tuesday against the town of Kunkuna, as part of its response to an armed attack against an advance convoy of the president, Muhammadu Buhari.

According to information collected by the Nigerian newspaper ‘The Guardian’, Air Force planes bombed the area around 11:00 p.m. (local time) on Tuesday, shortly after the aforementioned attack, which resulted in two injuries.

Sources quoted by this medium have indicated that the air attack resulted in several deaths and significant material damage, although the Nigerian authorities have not ruled at the moment and there is no specific balance of victims.

The attacked convoy was transporting “an advance team of security guards, protocol members and media workers for Buhari’s visit to Daura” –his hometown– to celebrate the Muslim holiday of Eid al Adha, according to Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu confirmed on Wednesday.

At the moment there is no claim of responsibility for the attack. Insecurity in Nigeria, previously centered in the northeast of the country, has spread in recent months to other areas in the north and northwest, raising alarm bells about the possible expansion of these terrorist and criminal networks.
