According to the document, Gabriel Carlos Salinas Mendoza, 28 years old and a Venezuelan national, was detained during a routine security operation in the capital. Agents checked his identity documents against databases and identified him as a wanted person by Interpol.

Salinas Mendoza is wanted by the authorities in Colombia, who consider him a suspect in the murder of prosecutor Marcelo Pecci, which occurred in May.

The director of the Colombian National Police, Henry Armando Sanabria, said this Wednesday at a press conference that they were notified of the arrest in Caracas and that they are working with the Venezuelan authorities so that the detainee is prosecuted.

Sanabria added that the prosecutor’s offices of both countries must coordinate the procedures to be followed.
