The Kremlin has suspended on Tuesday the agreement on education that it shared with Ukraine for the “recognition and equivalence” of academic titles obtained in either of the two neighboring nations.

This has been confirmed by the Russian Foreign Ministry in a statement posted on its Legal Information portal, where they have specified that the agreement was signed more than two decades ago, at the end of May 2000.

The decision comes after the Ukrainian authorities denounced at the beginning of May -during the first weeks after the invasion of their territory- all the agreements with Russia in the field of education and science, including the recognition of academic titles, collects TASS .

The Russian Ministry of Education and Science has previously warned that the suppression of this agreement would mean the end of mutual recognition and equivalence of diplomas and academic titles from both countries.
