Khamenei says the US is "accomplice" in the attack carried out by the Islamic State against a mausoleum in Iran

Dec. 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, affirmed on Tuesday that the United States is an “accomplice” in the attack carried out in November by the jihadist group Islamic State against a mausoleum in the city of Shiraz, which resulted in thirteen deaths.

“In addition to the criminals and treacherous people directly responsible (for the attack), those who support and create the Islamic State are accomplices in this crime,” he said, before criticizing the “spiteful” US government for “creating” the jihadist group, as as reported by the Iranian news agency Tasnim.

Khamenei, who has met with relatives of several who died in the attack during the day, has said that the United States is “a disgusting liar” that maintains “a scandalous behavior based on raising the flag of Human Rights with its words while in the practice creates dangerous terrorist groups.

The authorship of the attack on the Shah Cheragh mausoleum, perpetrated when the faithful were performing their prayers, was claimed by the Islamic State. After that, the Iranian president, Ebrahim Raisi, said that the protests after the death in custody of Mahsa Amini, detained for allegedly wearing the veil incorrectly, “pave the way” for this type of attack.

The mausoleum, which contains the tomb of Ahmed bin Musa – brother of Imam Ali Reza, descendant of Muhammad and eighth imam of the Twelver Shiites, the majority in Iran – is the third most important in the country, behind those of Ali himself Reza and that of Fatima Masumé, the latter’s sister.
