Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee beginning his program of visits to Bangkok, Thailand, to attend activities related to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
Upon his arrival, Lee met with the Prime Minister of Thailand, Prayut Chan-o-cha. He expressed his gratitude to Thailand for its leadership in resuming physical APEC meetings at all levels this year.
Noting that Hong Kong has actively tried to join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and formally applied for membership in January, Lee requested Thailand’s support.
He further noted that Hong Kong can contribute to achieving mutual benefits among RCEP economies through Hong Kong’s free and open trade as well as its status as an international financial center.
Lee added that Hong Kong has returned to the world stage and he hopes there will be many more high-level official exchanges between Hong Kong and Thailand to strengthen bilateral trade, investment and cultural ties.
Later, at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Lee welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping, who arrived to attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and visit Thailand.

He also met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Thailand Han Zhiqiang and chatted with representatives of the Thai-China Chamber of Commerce.
Also, Lee accompanied by the Secretary of Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau, attended a gala dinner offered by the organizer to the participating leaders, and witnessed cultural performances.
