The Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, will travel to Qatar to meet with local authorities and attend the first game of the North American team in the World Cup, with the aim of recognizing the “important contribution” of the country to “diplomacy of sport”.
The head of US diplomacy will arrive in Qatar on Monday to open the fifth bilateral Strategic Dialogue. During his two-day visit, he plans to meet several senior officials, including the Qatari Foreign Minister, with whom he will underline current relations.
The State Department has explained in a statement that Blinken will deal with a series of “priorities”, among which Washington has included “labor and human rights”, in a context in which international organizations have focused precisely on abuses that are committed in a generalized way against certain sectors or groups taking advantage of the World Cup.
