At the Meta offices they want to ensure that their instant messaging app, WhatsApp, offers users the same features as its rivals. Today we are talking about an option that already exists on Telegram.
WhatsApp has been working on a bunch of new features that are scheduled to roll out in the coming weeks for all users. Despite having hundreds of millions of users, the competition is tighter than ever.
For example, the company is working on a Community feature, video calls for 32 people, sending messages to oneself, etc. However, before these features reach the final version of WhatsApp, what they do is test them on users of the beta version.
These risk trying updates that give failures or errors in exchange for having, first, the new features of WhatsApp. In other words, they have the future of the app in their hands. And now the testers are testing another great feature that the company has been working on for some time.
Apparently, the function we are talking about is the WhatsApp Companion Mode (or Companion Mode) that allows you to link a new device with the same account of an existing phone.
WhatsApp Companion mode is coming to Android and iOS
This means that two different devices can be used simultaneously with one WhatsApp account and one phone number. This feature is not something new for instant messaging applications. For example, Telegram already has it.
The new WhatsApp Companion Mode feature was discovered by WABetaInfo and is available to users of Beta version 2.22.24.18. both Android and iOS.
If the feature is active on your phone, you will see the option Pair with your phonewhere the application will ask you to scan a QR code similar to whatsapp Web or the desktop app. After you pair your phone, your chats will be synced to the paired device.
Please note that some features such as live location, stickers, and other functionality may not sync. You can link up to 4 devices at the same time and more than two smartphones to the same WhatsApp account (also WhatsApp Web).
A broader rollout is expected in the coming days. For now, however, only some beta users can test this feature. If you want to try it, make sure you have the latest beta version of the app from WhatsApp.
