Meet the new elected representatives of the public of the Escazú Agreement

On November 2 and 3, 2022, the elections for representatives of the public of the Escazú Agreement were held through the Regional Public Mechanism.

The Escazú Agreement Secretariat congratulates the six newly elected representatives of the public:

  • Cesar Artiga, from El Salvador
  • Michael Kaufman from Argentina
  • Nicole Leotaud, from Trinidad and Tobago
  • Joara Marchezini, from Brazil
  • Irene Murillo, from Costa Rica
  • Bishnu Tulsie, from Saint Lucia

In accordance with the election regulations, the electoral roll was made up of the people registered in the Regional Public Mechanism until 11:39 p.m. in Santiago, Chile on August 22, 2022. Each voter had a single vote to choose any candidacy and to vote, they had to register on the electronic platform set up for that purpose. The two people who obtained the most votes in each of the sub-regions were elected as representatives. In each subregion there could not be more than one person elected as a representative of the same country (national or resident) or of the same sex.

The Escazú Agreement Secretariat thanks all the people who participated in this process, both the candidacies and the public, and invites them to continue supporting the implementation of the Escazú Agreement in Latin America and the Caribbean.
