The Jordi Bayarri Scientific Collection reaches its 12th volume. This celebrated series, which aims to bring the lives of great scientists from the past to the smallest, reaches its first dozen installments and does so in the best possible way. The new book, dedicated to Avicenna, one of the pioneers of the science of modern medicine, briskly follows the path of his predecessors: some 30 pages (plus extras) of comics in which the reader will be able to learn about both his life and his achievements. of this Persian doctor.
With the script and drawing by Jordi Bayarri, and the essential color by Dani Seijas, helped on this occasion by Mr. Jav! Doodles, the book, as always horizontally recalling the old classic Spanish and Italian comics, takes us into the life story of Avicenna, also a philosopher, a prolific writer whose most remembered text, “The Canon of Medicine”, acquires a special role in it.
Bayarri and Seijas tell us how Avicenna, from a very young age, demonstrated a remarkable talent for science. He received a good education, but this did not prevent him from continuing to study on his own in all kinds of scientific areas. Avicenna focused however above all on medicine, for which he wrote his main work in 5 volumes.
His life, however, was full of vicissitudes, which made him fall ill and he ended up dying young, just 56 years old. Bayarri covers his life until shortly before, with the Canon of Medicine as the final guiding thread.
As always, the book closes with a selection of sketches, a bibliography, and some equally interesting supporting texts written by Tayra Lanuza, who also oversees all scientific content.
The volume, as on previous occasions, has been possible thanks to the patrons who, through Verkami, have allowed it to come to light. We are already looking forward to the next in the series.
