Ethiopian military officials and rebels from the Tigray region have agreed to form a joint committee to implement an international “disarmament, demobilization and reintegration” program and facilitate humanitarian corridors, after meeting for five days in Nairobi.

The announcement came this Saturday after the negotiation between the main military commanders of the Ethiopian Government, led by Marshal Berhanu Jula and the forces of the Tigray region, with Lieutenant General Tadesse Worede at the head, according to ‘Addis Standard’.

Jula has affirmed, in the appearance with the media, that the two parties “have been committed in good spirit” throughout the conversation and now they will fully dedicate themselves to implementing the agreement.

For his part, Tadesse, has maintained that the people of Tigray have “suffered incalculable misery over the past two years and continue to suffer” for which reason this commission has indicated the “hope and expectation” that this suffering will come to an end. its end soon, according to the aforementioned local media.

Among the sealed points, both parties have agreed to guarantee the safety of workers and humanitarian organizations when they assist those who need it in the Tigray region and its neighbor, in addition to protecting civilians in these territories, although the text of the The cessation of hostilities does not recognize Eritrea by name, instead mentioning “foreign forces”.

After the appearance, they formalized the agreement through the signing of the Declaration of the Executive Plan of the Pretoria Peace Agreement.
