Thousands of people take to the streets of the capital of Sudan again against foreign "interference"

November 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –

As happened two weeks ago, thousands of people took to the streets of several Sudanese cities this Saturday, including the capital, Khartoum, to criticize the “international interference” of the United Nations and other international organizations in the difficult negotiations after the coup in the African country.

The protesters, reports the Al Intibaha portal, chanted slogans against the UN mission in Sudan, asking for “the non-interference of Western embassies in the preparation of the transitional constitution”, with slogans such as “No to the bilateral settlement”, ” No to external interference”, “The people reject guardianship”, “No to political settlement” and “No to the new constitutional document.

The protests are directed specifically against the preparations of a document by the tripartite mechanism (United Nations, the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development), and by the International Quartet (United States, Great Britain, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates ) which contemplates a new transition option after last year’s coup based on a plan drafted by the Sudanese Bar Association.

On October 25, 2021, the leaders of a faction of the Army –which had the support of various armed groups– overthrew the transitional government established as a result of the agreement between the military and civil society forces after the fall of the former dictator. Omar Hasan al Bashir in April 2019.

The military leader of the coup in Sudan, Abdelfatá al Burhan, confirmed on Sunday the start of new talks to settle, as a result of the plan of the Bar Association, the process of political transition in the country but has warned that the Sudanese Army “will not will sit idly by” as the country collapses during the slow process of dialogue.

The draft constitution establishes a civilian-led transitional authority with supervision by the armed forces, which would drop politics after an agreement is signed. The Bar Association delivered the initial plan to the tripartite mechanism on September 10.
