BRUSSELS, 12 Nov. (DPA/EP) –

Belgian authorities have seized 7.9 tons of cocaine hidden in a shipment of bananas arrived from Ecuador at the Belgian port of Antwerp.

The drug, which could have reached a market value of more than 200 million euros, was seized on October 20 in a joint operation by Belgian and Dutch security forces.

Four people have been arrested near Amsterdam, as reported late this Friday by the Dutch Police.

The suspects were found tracking the container carrying the drugs to a warehouse in Emmeloord, the Netherlands, after being picked up in Antwerp.

The Police have also reported the arrest of a man from Eindhoven, the Netherlands, when he tried to introduce 600 kilos of cocaine into the Netherlands, also from the port of Antwerp, where it arrived in a container from Colombia.
