One of the largest companies in the telecommunications space, Cisco Systemswill build its first European chip design center in Barcelona, something that comes after months of negotiations between the Government of Spain and Cisco Systems. It should be noted that this is not the first time that Cisco has set up in Spain, since it already has a data center in Barcelona.
That is why the chip design center will be located in the same facilities as the data center, although for now it remains to be seen what the necessary investment will be to carry out this expansion, an enlargement that should pave the way for 20 percent of the world’s semiconductors to be made in the European Union by 2030.
One of the main reasons why Cisco has decided that Spain is a good place is because the talent that can be found in our country, both for the number of available engineers and for the number of engineers who are about to leave the universities.
In this way, if the Perte Chip plan goes ahead as expected, the European Union should stop being totally dependent on Asia for the supply of semiconductors.
