The winners of the 2022 edition of the Radio France International – Radio Culture Award for the Promotion of the Arts were unveiled this Wednesday, November 9, in an emotional ceremony that took place at the French Embassy in Argentina and brought together nearly 150 people.
After two years in which the award was altered by the pandemic (in 2020 virtual works were awarded and last year, institutions that had contributed to the return to a certain normality of cultural life in Argentina), this edition returned to the sources, In other words, it was decided to reward works from a specific artistic discipline, in two categories, Public Management and Private Management, and Performing Arts was chosen, as in the first edition.
A high-level jury, made up of Marilú Marini, renowned actress and theater director (also of cinema), with an important career in France, María Victoria Alcaraz, current general director of International Cooperation of the City of Buenos Aires and former general director of the Theater Colón, Marcela Criquet, choreographer, dancer and actress, José Miguel Onaindia, cultural manager, former director of the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts, the Ricardo Rojas Cultural Center and the Solís Theater in Montevideo, and Alejandro Tantanian, playwright, author and theater director, former general director of the Cervantes National Theater (in addition to Mario Terzano, president of Radio Cultura, and Juan Buchet, RFI correspondent, permanent members representing the organizing stations), had the arduous task of selecting the award-winning works from a hundreds of applications.
In the Public Management category, the work was awarded what the river does, authored and directed by María Marull and Paula Marull, presented at the Buenos Aires Theater Complex (CTBA), a show of special aesthetic refinement, which, according to the jury, takes up some of the great traditions of local theater. In Private Management, he won meter eighty, written and directed by José Guerrero, on the bill at Teatro Timbre 4, a representative work of the contemporary Buenos Aires scene, and with a very current language. Two special mentions were also awarded: one for the career of the well-known actor, theater director and opera director Ruben Szuchmacher, thinker and defender of classical and contemporary theatre; another to the “Invocations” Cycle and its creators Mercedes Halfon and Carolina Martín Ferro, a cycle that for years has connected great figures of international dramaturgy with contemporary authors, thus uniting tradition and avant-garde.
After the usual speeches by Lionel Paradisi-Coulouma, cultural adviser and director of the French Institute of Argentina, Éric Cremer, strategy director of France Médias Monde (FMM), a group to which RFI belongs, Mario Terzano and Juan Buchet, the winners they received their diplomas with heartfelt emotion, reflected in their words of thanks and shared by the public present, all representatives of the intense Argentine artistic life, and among them the Minister of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, Enrique Avogadro. On behalf of FMM, in addition to Éric Cremer, Pompeyo Pino and Olivier Mortier, director of Americas broadcasting for RFI and France 24, respectively, participated in the event.
After the award ceremony, bubbles and petits fours made it possible to share the joy of the full return to an unrestricted cultural agenda, especially in the performing arts, as witnessed by the lines that form every night, Sundays included, in front of the theaters in Buenos Aires. Aires.
