The IU MEP and president of the European Parliament delegation for relations with Palestine, Manu Pineda, transferred this week to the president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, his intention to lead a mission of the European Parliament to Palestine before the end of the year after the official trip planned for May was frustrated when he was denied entry to Israel.
As reported by parliamentary sources to Europa Press, there was a meeting in Strasbourg on Tuesday to address the controversy in which the IU MEP reiterated his intention to travel to Palestine, before which the president of the European Parliament promised to deal with the issue with the Israeli authorities to facilitate the mission.
Metsola explained to the MEP his efforts with the Israeli authorities to ensure that the European Parliament mission takes place. The veto against Pineda, and the subsequent cancellation of the trip, was also discussed at the conference of presidents on June 2.
The president of the European Parliament assured Pineda that she will continue to send the same message in her contacts with the Israeli authorities to ensure respect for the institution and its members, added the sources consulted.
