FIFA decided to end its long relationship with Electronic Arts and look for new horizons for its soccer games. The developer has already confirmed that in July 2023 a new era will begin with its series EA SPORTS FCwhich will preserve the most important leagues in the sport.
By contrast, FIFA had not disclosed its plans to continue its popular soccer franchise. This changed today, as the federation confirmed that it is already preparing 4 games to welcome the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Players will probably be in for a surprise, as they will all be blockchain titles that will bet on Web 3.0 and, at least one of them, for the metaverse.

FIFA stated that its soccer franchise will expand “to new spaces, platforms and digital games” for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The federation is interested in the use of new technology in its projects, so it will bet on Web 3.0, the blockchain and the metaverse.
The first revealed title is AI League: FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Edition, defined as a casual soccer game where teams of 4 characters controlled by artificial intelligence will compete. Players will be able to take part in matches at specific times and will be able to predict the results. They will have access to digital and physical prizes if they match the results of the real World Cup matches.
On the other hand is FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in the Upland Metaverse. As its name suggests, it will bet on the Upland metaverse, which is powered by the blockchain. Players will be able to visit various locations and purchase official World Cup digital collectibles.
FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 on Phygtl is described as “a digital representation of the eternal fandom” of soccer. So users will be able to use the Phygtl mobile app to enjoy an immersive experience and co-create “the world’s first fan-generated digital reward.”
Finally, it was revealed Matchday Challenge: FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Edition, a social prediction game based on soccer cards. This project promises to take the excitement of sports fans to the clouds with a casual and fun experience.
“This is a very exciting set of partnerships that we have established as we embrace a new digital native football fan and engage with them in spaces where we know they are already active. As we continue to build our future gaming strategy, Web 3.0 is sure to have an important role to play, and this marks the beginning of our journey,” explained Romy Gai, FIFA Commercial Director.
