Nintendo Reveals Millionaire Active Nintendo Switch Player Base

Today Nintendo gave something to talk about after publishing sales figures especially for games and consoles. However, the company also boasted about how well its services are doing and as reflected in its active player base, which grew across all age groups.

As part of its latest financial report for the second quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2023, Nintendo shared various details about its consoles, games, and services, including Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Account.

Millions of users played Nintendo Switch last year

First, the Japanese company announced that the active player base of Nintendo Switch grew again, as the annual number of players for the last 12 months was 106 million users.

“(…) and we still don’t see the trend going down,” said Shuntaro Furukawa, president of Nintendo.

It is important to note that this figure only includes users with a Nintendo Account who have played Nintendo Switch titles connected to the Internet. Those who only used the Nintendo eShop or other software services are not included.

How many subscribers does Nintendo Switch Online have?

That’s not all, because Nintendo also revealed that a large part of the system’s user base is subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online, since precisely the service has more than 36 million members.

To put it in perspective, PlayStation Plus (also required to play online on Sony consoles) has 45.4 million subscribers. microsoft does not report the number of Xbox LIVE Gold subscribers.

According to Nintendo, Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions have increased along with the number of users and the launch of titles with support for online play.

Additionally, the company reported that Nintendo Accounts, which are necessary to play the company’s titles online and shop in the Nintendo eShop, have also done very well.
