An exceptional battery
When Apple presented the iPhone 14 Plus there was a fact that caught everyone’s attention: “this is the iPhone with the best battery of all” and although, normally in average use, all iPhones have a duration of more or less a day ( about 17-18 hours), the reality is that this model exceeds these expectations.
To check if it was really a promise kept, I tried the iPhone 14 Plus vs. iPhone 14 Pro Max and the iPhone 13 Pro Max (of course, the latter already has a little battery wear from a year’s use and is at 95% “health”). For three days I used one of these devices as my main phone, following the same functions day after day to make the comparison valid.
The activities I did were surfing the internet, answering messages through WhatsApp, a couple of one-hour Google Meet calls, I went to social media apps and email (I can’t live if I don’t check every notification that comes to me) and other productivity ones like Monday, playing at least 2 hours of audio a day and watching another couple of hours of video.
What I found at the end of these three days surprised me. Although the autonomy of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is very good, the promises that Apple makes about that of the iPhone 14 Plus are real. Without a doubt, this model had the best performance on its test day, arriving at night still with 25% battery, the best? I left it overnight in “sleep” mode, without charging, and when I woke up the battery had only dropped 2% more. Doing the same with the other models, the iPhone 13 Pro Max arrived at night with 6% battery and the iPhone 14 Pro Max with 14%.
Other points in favor
Although much has been said about the similarities between this model and the 13 Pro family, the reality is that although they share the A15 Bionic chip, by also integrating novelties such as the Photonic Engine, which through software allows us to take better photographs even in low light situations or the action mode in the camera, which gives greater stability to moving shots.
It also has the new shock detection sensor, through which, upon receiving information about the impact, it makes a call to the available emergency services.
Conclusions
Why is it important to review a phone for its battery? Because then this model becomes a relevant option for those people who have a high demand for use, who are looking for a phone for productivity issues (sharing personal and work life in a team now with the possibility of having Sim as well as eSim) with a large screen where the content can be enjoyed well.
In that sense, I consider it a success for Apple to have withdrawn the iPhone Mini from the market to bet on having a version with a larger screen, with good features, but without paying the price of a Pro Max.
