Japan and the United States hold joint military drills in the East China Sea

Nov. 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Japanese Ministry of Defense reported this Saturday that part of its combat aircraft and bombers of the United States Army have carried out joint maneuvers in the East China Sea.

According to Japanese public television NHK, the exercises took place on Saturday afternoon on the Japanese island of Kyushu.

A total of nine aircraft have taken part in the drills, five are fighter jets from the Japan Air Self-Defense Force and two fighter jets and two bombers are from the United States. The latter have also participated in joint actions with the South Korean Army.

The Ministry has stressed that these exercises show that the two countries are prepared to face the security situation in the area and are “close allies”, while pointing out that conditions are increasingly tense due to the repeated launches by South Korea North.

In recent days, North Korea has carried out numerous launches to test ballistic missiles. These have led to the response of the G7 countries that after condemning them, have reminded Pyongyang that in the event that it carries out a new nuclear test, there will be a “rapid, united and forceful” response from the international community.

The Secretary of the United Nations, António Guterres, also spoke in the same vein and condemned the launch of an intercontinental missile, after which he expressed concern about the escalation of tensions in this region.
