The world’s first foldable OLED laptop Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLEDwhich has a 17.3-inch screen and a light weight of 1.5 kg, is now available in Spain for purchase, where it has arrived for a price of 3,999 euros.
The Taiwan-based company unveiled this device earlier this year, within the framework of CES 2022, despite the fact that the germ of this project was born in 2019. Months later, in the Berlin IFA, held at the beginning of September, were announced new details about this product.
Asus’ first foldable laptop is equipped with a 12.5-inch 2.5K OLED touch panel in clamshell mode and 17.3 inches in tablet format. The display also offers support for the DCI P3 color spectrum, 90Hz refresh rates, and 0.2 milliseconds (ms) response time.
In addition, Asus incorporates, within the OLED technology of the screen, a pixel refinement technique developed together with Samsung, which allows the color algorithm to adjust those aged pixels so that they show their original color and extend their useful life.
On the other hand, the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED supports up to six different modes, according to its use. One of them, the laptop without a physical keyboard, which can be attached using a magnetic system. The other, extended with the machine in shell mode and the physical keyboard.
It also allows desktop mode, with the panel in its full extension on a base and the Bluetooth keyboard; tablet mode, with the 17.3-inch screen but without a keyboard; and the reading, which offers the user two full 12.5-inch panels with an aspect ratio of 3:2.
To offer this flexibility of use, Asus guarantees that the hinge has at least 30,000 bending cycles. This figure contrasts, by the way, with the 10,000 that laptops usually have according to the data provided by the company.
Other features of this device, at the ‘software’ levelare the integration of the ScreenXpert 3 program, and artificial intelligence (AI) noise cancellation system, Dolby Atmos Y DolbyVision.
Internally, it has a processor 12th Gen Intel Core i7-1250U, Intel Iris Xe graphics, 16GB LPDDR5 RAM, and up to 1TB Gen 4 SSD storage.
At the time, Asus indicated that Zenbook 17 Fold OLED would go on sale in the last quarter of this year and it has been, since is available from this Friday. However, the manufacturer said that it would go on sale for $3,499, some 3,500 euros at current exchange rates, and its starting price in Spain is 3,999 euros.
