Costa Rica strengthens ties of friendship and cooperation with Korea

The Vice Minister of Bilateral Affairs and International Cooperation of Costa Rica, Ambassador Lydia Peralta, held a two-way meeting with the First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Korea, Cho Hyundong, in Seoul, on the occasion of reviewing the main issues on the bilateral, regional and global agenda.

Both deputy ministers expressed their interest in continuing to work towards achieving tangible results, especially in the field of international cooperation, and they celebrated the fact that Costa Rica and Korea now have 60 years of diplomatic relations.

They also highlighted the harmony of both countries in common principles and values ​​such as the defense of democracy, freedom and respect and promotion of human rights.

The meeting was also propitious for both deputy ministers to agree to continue deepening the bilateral relationship in fields such as carbon neutrality, trade and attraction of foreign investment, combating poverty, economic recovery, digitization and cybersecurity, as well as Costa Rica’s interest in to get closer to the Asia Pacific region, among other topics of interest.

Vice Minister Peralta took the opportunity to express heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Costa Rican Government and people, with the Republic of Korea, and its people, on the occasion of the tragedy that occurred in Itaewon, Seoul, on October 29, with the tragic balance of more than 150 deceased people, mostly young people.

Additionally, the deputy minister expressed her concern about the continuous missile launches by North Korea and reaffirmed Costa Rica’s position in favor of the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and world peace and called for respect for the international law, as essential elements for international peace and security.
