Japan studies the possibility of developing hypersonic missiles by 2030

Nov. 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Japanese Ministry of Defense is studying the possibility of developing and equipping the Army with hypersonic missiles by 2030 and in full expansion of this type of weapons internationally, especially in the face of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Thus, the authorities have confirmed that work to develop this type of weapon is expected to begin in early 2023, according to information from the ‘Nikkei’ newspaper.

The measure is being studied as a result of information about the development of possible similar missiles by China and North Korea, in addition to the United States, which has led the authorities to consider that they must be prepared not only to intercept enemy missiles but to attack if necessary.

In this sense, Tokyo plans to complete the review of its national security strategy before the end of the year. Hypersonic missiles can travel at five times the speed of sound and can perform more complex trajectories. Also, they are more difficult to intercept.
