Seven chilling new horror movies and series streaming for a traumatic Halloween

How one of the most violent and wicked movies of recent years has become a box office phenomenon

It is relatively common for platforms to be filled with horror movies with the arrival of Halloween. This year, however, we have seen a very noticeable increase in the quality of proposals from different platforms. In general, it’s been a very good year for the genre, with blockbusters like ‘Smile’ or ‘Terrifier 2’, and that has ended up on our favorite platforms. Some examples? there they go

Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities

The jewel in the crown of terrifying material is, without a doubt, this eight-episode miniseries produced by Guillermo del Toro and directed by a group of guest filmmakers who are inspired by previous stories that range from classics such as HP Lovecraft (in two episodes that adapt his short stories ‘Pickman’s Model’ and ‘Dreams in the Witch’s House’ to other authors such as Del Toro himself. The result is visually very careful, and the tones range from stories of unearthly revenge to ‘Stories of the Crypt’ to anti-consumerist satires such as ‘The Appearance’ The level, in general, is very high, and some of the best pieces of audiovisual horror of the year are here, such as the superb ‘The Autopsy’.

barbarian

There is much talk about this film that has been one of the biggest successes of the season, with more than 42 million dollars raised against a budget of only four and a half. Part of a very simple approach: a young woman travels to Detroit for a job interview and rents a house for the night, but when she arrives she discovers that someone is already occupying it by mistake. With unexpected twists, occasional forays into comedy and influences from classic B series from the eighties such as ‘The Basement of Fear’, a commercial, intense and very successful horror film.

Wendell and Wild

Terror for all audiences from the hands of an expert, Henry Selick, director of ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’. Here he offers us a return to macabre animation by stop motion which has the participation in the voices of Michael Key and Jordan Peele. The latter (director of ‘Let me out” or ‘Nope!’) also produces this diversion in which two demon brothers want to enter the world of the living. To do this they will have to face a nun and other creatures of the night with the help of a 13-year-old girl.

Run, baby, run

If you’ve had enough of ghosts, monsters, and the Taken, try some everyday horror. An everyday nightmare to the nth degree, which tells how an attractive woman goes on a blind date, but it turns very sinister when her partner is revealed to be a dangerous murderer. From there, all that matters is an escape to get out of the worst possible nightmare alive.

hell hole

Hellhole Review

A truly unexpected surprise in the form of an atmospheric and perverse story of satanic claustrophobia. A man infiltrates a Polish monastery far from civilization to investigate a series of disappearances of women in the area. Once inside he discovers that the dark customs of the monks and the darkness of the place hide many mysteries. Macabre and almost minimalist, this little gem for devotees of pure horror is one of those surprises that arrive without warning on Netflix (no trailer!) and can easily become your favorite-movie-that-no-one- have-heard-about for this Halloween.

9 Ways to Hell

‘The Cabinet of Curiosities of Guillermo del Toro’ is a great way to enter the traditional world of short episodes and chilling pills, but there is more. This ‘9 Ways to Hell’ is a compilation of nine extreme horror stories where humor, gore, monstrosities and everyday impact come together, all inspired by Dante’s circles of hell.

Nope!': the director of 'Let me out' signs the most disconcerting, suggestive (and commented) science fiction of the moment

Cage

Although it went somewhat unnoticed at its premiere, its arrival on Netflix has boosted it to the most viewed on the platform in Spanish, and it is not surprising. This production by Alex de la Iglesia is a good work with a spooky atmosphere and benefits from an impressive performance by Elena Anaya. In it, we will meet a married couple who run into a girl wandering alone on the road. Two weeks later they welcome her in her house when they see that nobody claims her, and it will be the beginning of a series of experiences to the limit with the afterlife.
