Ukraine’s Infrastructure Minister, Oleksandr Kubrakov, confirmed this Sunday that the departure of grain cargo ships from Ukrainian ports is paralyzed after the withdrawal this past Saturday of the food export agreement after accusing kyiv of an attack with drones in the Crimean port of Sevastopol.
Kubrakov, on his Twitter account, has given as an example the situation of the freighter ‘Ikaria Angel’, loaded with more than 40,000 tons of wheat bound for Ethiopia, and right now stopped after the Russian withdrawal.
The ship, under the auspices of the UN World Food Program “was intended for Ethiopians who are on the verge of famine but, due to the blockade of the grain corridor by Russia, export is impossible.”
The UN Joint Coordination Center had already advanced on Saturday the practical impossibility of continuing with exports after the Russian withdrawal after confirming that “there is no current protocol” for the movement of incoming or outgoing vessels since this Sunday.
The United Nations, the center said in a statement, is “discussing the next steps” after Russia’s decision.
