We have new news from the European Commission, which has established that, by 2035, it will be totally prohibited to manufacture new cars that emit carbon dioxide.
The European Union reached an agreement on Thursday on a law to ban the sale of new cars of gasoline and diesel from 2035, with the aim of accelerating the switch to electric vehicles and combating climate change.
This is all part of the European Green Deal package, a series of political initiatives that aim to lead the EU towards a ecological transitionwith the ultimate goal of achieve climate neutrality by 2050 in all 27 countries.
Let us remember that, already in Spain, within the project for 2050 (Climate Change and Energy Transition Law), it is established, among other changes, also that the country achieve climate neutrality in 2050 and that the electricity system be 100% renewable.
“Europe is embracing the shift towards mobility of emissions zero. European car manufacturers are already showing that they are ready to take a step forward, with the arrival on the market of cars increasingly affordable electricit states in a press release Frans Timmermans, Executive Vice President of the European Green Deal.
Europe goes one step further towards 2035 and prohibits the manufacture of new cars with CO2 emissions
This new legislation arises with the aim of making the EU transport system more sustainable.
The deal also includes a 55% reduction of CO2 emissions from new cars sold after 2030 compared to 2021 levels, much more than the existing target of a 37.5% reduction by then. Basically we see an acceleration of objectives.
“It clearly shows the EU’s commitment to achieving its climate goals and demonstrates that Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine is not slowing down our clean energy transition, but accelerating our work and moving us faster towards becoming the world’s first climate-neutral continent. world by 2050”Timmermans adds.
On the other hand, the new vans must comply with a cut of 100% of the emissions of CO2 by 2035, and 50% by 2030 compared to 2021 levels.
With all this on the table, we are already seeing how some vehicle manufacturers as Volkswagen has recently stated that, as of 2033, the brand will only produce electric cars in Europe, thus eliminating any CO2 emissions.
