The pro-Russian authorities of the Ukrainian region of Zaporizhia have reported that, based on the martial law in force in the territory, administration employees will be able to check residents’ mobile phones for pro-Ukrainian “propaganda”.
As detailed on his Telegram channel by the spokesman for the pro-Russian authorities, Vladimir Rogov, “selective preventive checks” of the mobile devices of the citizens of Zaporizhia have begun this Thursday.
“Subscriptions to propaganda resources of the kyiv terrorist regime are of interest. If a person is subscribed to propaganda resources, he will receive a warning the first time. In the future, violators will be fined,” he said.
If content considered to be propagandistic is identified, the citizen in question could be accused of being a “foreign agent”, subjecting him to possible criminal proceedings.
These controls will be carried out within the framework of the martial law that Russian President Vladimir Putin decreed over the Zaporizhia region and the rest of the territories annexed by Moscow at the end of September.
