Islamic State claims responsibility for the attack

At least 15 people have died and another 40 have been injured as a result of an armed attack on the Shah Cheragh mosque in the city of Shiraz, located in southeastern Iran, which has been claimed by the Islamic State.
As detailed by a person in charge of Security, Political and Social Affairs of the Fars governorate, Ismail Mohebipour, the event occurred while the faithful were performing their prayers, as reported by the ISNA news agency.
Mohebipour himself has previously stressed that the Iranian security forces have managed to arrest two of the three alleged perpetrators of the shooting, while also pointing out that the situation has been controlled.
Security sources consulted by the aforementioned agency have pointed out that the alleged perpetrators of the attack would be takfiris, an adjective used to designate Muslims who accuse others of apostasy, thus denying the status of true faithful to those with signs of faith other than Own.
Later, SITE Intelligence Group, an agency specialized in monitoring terrorist groups, reported that the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack on the mosque in Shiraz.
This event has occurred on a day in which several cities in Iran have once again been the scene of numerous mobilizations against the Government, just on the day that marks the 40th day since the death of the young Kurdish Masha Amini in police custody.
RAISI: “WILL NOT LEAVE AN ANSWER”
Hours after the event was known, the president of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, has released a statement in which he conveys his condolences to the families of the deceased and injured, victims of an attack perpetrated by “the enemies of the Islamic revolution”.
According to the Iranian president, those who go against Iran only know how to take revenge for their “desperation” by trying to establish “violence and terror” in the Asian nation.
“This evil will definitely not go unanswered, and law enforcement and security agencies … will give an instructive response to its perpetrators and ideologues,” President Raisi said.
