Brussels approves 115 million euros to support organic farming in Morocco

BRUSSELS, Oct. 25 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The European Commission has approved this Tuesday the program endowed with 115 million euros to promote organic, inclusive and innovative agriculture in Morocco, after the signing of the first green alliance with a third country in the framework of the visit of the Vice President of the Executive European, Frans Timmermans, to Rabat.

The funds will support the program that aims to contribute to Morocco’s national strategies until 2030 by promoting an ecological transition conducive to the creation of decent work opportunities in Morocco in the agricultural and forestry sector.

“The Green Partnership between Morocco and the EU is the first of its kind and an important recognition of Morocco’s leadership and potential in the green transition,” Timmermans said about the signed pact, insisting that support for agriculture and Moroccan forestry through this program “demonstrates that the EU is on Morocco’s side in the fight against climate crises”.

The main actions of the program are support for sustainable agricultural value chains, forest protection and management, and job creation and social inclusion in the two sectors. It will be launched in different regions of the North African country, including Tetouan and Tangier.

This announcement comes after the signing last week of the Green Association with Morocco to establish common measures against climate change or for the establishment of an ecological alliance in order to establish common measures to combat climate change. The Maghreb country is the first non-EU state to sign an agreement of this type with Brussels.
