Oct. 25 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least eleven children have died and five others have been seriously injured by a fire that has partially destroyed a school for children with visual disabilities in the Ugandan district of Mukono, located on the outskirts of the capital, Kampala.
The flames destroyed one of the bedrooms of this center, located in the town of Ntenjeru-Kisoga, at dawn, according to the director of the Salaama School for the Blind, Francis Kinubi, who has confirmed the transfer of the five injured children to a hospital.
An official from the Mukono administration, Hajat Fatuma Ndisaba Nabitaka, has confirmed to the ‘New Vision’ newspaper that an investigation has been opened “to determine what could have caused the fire.”
Such events are relatively common in Uganda. In March, the Ministry of Education attributed the fires in educational centers to the general lack of permits, especially in private schools, according to the ‘Daily Monitor’.
