The Government of Somalia announces the death of nearly 100 members of Al Shabaab in various military operations

Oct. 24 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Somali government announced on Monday that nearly 100 members of the Al Shabaab terrorist group, including several of its leaders, have been killed in various operations in the south of the country since Saturday, as reported by Deputy Information Minister Abderramán al Adalá.

According to a statement sent by the Somali government and collected by the Garowe Online news portal, the military operations were carried out with the collaboration of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) and international forces since Saturday in Shabeellaha Dhexe, in the south of the country.

Among the leaders killed in at least three operations are Abdullahi ali Araaye and Musab Abdalla Saney. “This operation was made possible by the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) with the help of our international friends and we thank them for their support,” the Information Ministry said.

The Somali military, backed by pro-government forces, US troops and the African Union (AU) peacekeeping mission, have made significant progress in recent weeks in their campaign against Al Shabaab, retaking several villages that the group terrorist had in his possession for years.

Somalia is facing an increase in the number of attacks by the Islamist militia, linked to the terrorist organization Al Qaeda, both in the capital and in other areas of the south of the country, which has led the president to promise a reinforcement of the security operations to deal with the threat.
