Meloni, leader of the Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d’Italia), has received from Draghi the small bell used by prime ministers to mark the start of their government meetingsa symbolic act that marks the transfer of power between the two leaders. The 45-year-old Roman politician is the first woman to receive this bell and, as tradition dictates, she rang it with a smile and then shook Draghi’s hand.

Immediately afterwards, after paying tribute to the flag, the Roman leader was received by Draghi on the first floor of the palace, with smiles and signs of cordiality, and then they began a closed-door meeting to discuss issues that concern the country.
The meeting between the two was longer than usual, lasting almost an hour and a half, and its content has not been disclosed.
Once finished, the Chigi Palace honor picket fired the outgoing Prime Minister, Draghiwhich ruled the country for 20 months from February 2021 with a coalition of unity supported by all parties except Meloni, his only opposition.
The workers and officials of the palace also said goodbye to him by applauding him from the windows of the building.
Lastly, on this official day for the new prime minister after being sworn in this Saturday, she must preside over the first meeting of the Council of Ministers and approve the appointment of the influential position of Undersecretary of the Presidencythe conservative Alfredo Mantovano.
Draghi had ordered his cabinet to make an orderly and rapid transition due to the energy crisis that the country is going through: “I am not giving advice to the new government, the only thing I can do is leave facts,” Draghi cut short in recent statements to the press.
Meloni took the oath of office before the Head of State, Sergio Mattarellaat the head of an Executive made up of the three parties that make up the winning coalition of the September 25 elections: the Brothers of Italy, the Northern League of Matteo Salvini and Forza Italia from Silvio Berlusconi.
The next step, in the coming days, will be face the investiture in the two seats of Parliament, the Senate and the Chamber of Deputiesa mere formalism since the right-wing coalition has the absolute majority.
