Oct. 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Space for Coordination of the Democratic Parties (ECPD), among which is the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC), has called this Friday for the resignation of the Government of Guinea Bissau, led by Umaro Sissoco Embaló, for not holding elections in the country on the scheduled date.

The second vice president of the PAIGC, Maria Odete Costa Semedo, has specified that the current president’s decision to dissolve Parliament sought to “silence” the Chamber, according to the ANG news agency.

The president of Guinea Bissau dissolved parliament last May, the second time something like this had happened in the country’s democracy after the late former president Kumba Ialá made the same decision, alleging that at that time the deputies were trying “remove” his powers as head of state.

Last week, after a meeting with the political parties, the Government of Embaló granted the postponement of the early elections, scheduled for December 18, postponing the elections for next April 23, 2023.

The dialogue forum of Civil Society Organizations of Guinea Bissau has also demanded this Friday that the country’s president set a new date for the parliamentary elections and thus unblock the process in the National Electoral Commission (CNE), as reported by the agency. of Portuguese news.

The president of the CNE was elected in March 2018 for a four-year term, but left office to assume the functions of president of the Supreme Court of Justice. The protocol establishes that, in case of resignation, a new election must be held in accordance with article 3, which establishes that they are elected by two thirds of the members of Parliament, which has been dissolved.

On the other hand, the president of Guinea Bissau has dismissed all his advisers and advisers this Friday through a decree within the framework of a decision that has been justified by the reduction in budget spending, according to the newspaper ‘O Democrata’.
