The Yemeni authorities have denounced a failed attack by drones by the Houthi rebels against the oil port of Daaba, located in the south of the Hadramaut governorate, which occupies practically the entire center-east of the country.
The regional governor, Mabjut bin Mubarak, has assured that the attack has been carried out specifically by two drones carrying explosive charges in the direction of the oil terminal, located in the city of Shihr, just as the ‘Nissos’ oil tanker was preparing to enter port.
According to the governor, the attack was launched from somewhere between the governorates of Marib and Al Jauf (in the center-west and northwest of the country) and both aircraft were destroyed by air defense systems before they could cause any damage. Material damage to port facilities, according to statements collected by the Yemeni media outlet South24.
The parties to the conflict in Yemen agreed on April 2 to launch a truce that, however, the Houthis and the international coalition led by Saudi Arabia accuse each other of having failed to comply. The ceasefire expired on October 2 and negotiations for its renewal have so far failed.
The war in Yemen pits the internationally recognized government, now represented by the Presidential Leadership Council and supported by the aforementioned international coalition, against the Huthis, backed by Iran. The Houthis control the capital, Sana’a, and parts of the north and west of the country.
