The Embassy of Spain in the Caribbean country condemns the attacks in Villa de Noavilles

The Haitian Ministry of Culture and Communication (MCC) has condemned this Thursday the attacks that armed groups would have carried out in the Artistic Village of Noailles, in the east of Port-au-Prince, and has described them as “attacks against the national heritage” .
The ministry has confirmed that it is working closely with the security forces to coordinate the protection of the place, where numerous metal and ceramic specialists reside, as well as the lives of artists, residents and the safeguarding of essential heritage, as reported ‘Le Nouvelliste’.
“The Ministry of Culture also condemns the actions of armed groups that constitute a crime against cultural heritage and in particular against this site of paramount importance in the production of cut metal, classified, since 2020, as Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Haiti” , wields a statement from the Haitian government.
The clashes that began on October 12, 2022 in the artistic village of Noailles between the ‘Vitelhomme’ and ‘400 Mawozo’ gangs have so far left 15 dead, including seven on October 17 alone.
In addition, more than 20 families in the area have been affected, and almost a dozen houses have been set on fire, according to the aforementioned newspaper.
THE EMBASSY OF SPAIN CONDEMNS THE ATTACKS IN NOAVILLES
In a statement on the social network Twitter, the Embassy of Spain in Haiti has “strongly” condemned the deadly attacks against the artists of the Noailles villa.
Spain has argued that the attack on the works in the area, which are considered the intangible heritage of Haiti, appeals to the “principle of humanity that obliges everyone to respect the lives of innocent citizens.”
